The Traffic and Safety Committee meeting that was scheduled for tonight (Monday, March 1) has been postponed. The next meeting will be Monday, April 5, at 6:45pm in the Paul Allen room at the Neighborhood House.

Join your neighbors, the architects for the RV Master Plan, SHA, Neighborhood House, Boys & Girls Club and Urban Farm designers for dinner and an interactive evening.

We want to learn about you and how it is to live here. You can also participate in design of the new Urban Farm to be constructed this spring and summer at the north end of New Rainier Vista. Plans currently include giving gardens, seed saving, and a youth garden. Kids are welcome. There will be an activity table for children.

If you are unable to attend but would like to provide feedback you can request a survey form from Kim Lokan, architect, at kimlokan@gmail.com.

New Volunteer Times for the NRV Tech Center

Following up on the call for volunteers earlier this month. The Neighborhood House has added new classes to their Tech Center offerings, and they are in need of volunteers.

Tuesday: 5-6:30 ESL Level 1 Class
Wednesday: 4-6 ESL Level 2 Class
Thursday: 2-3:30 RIA Class
Thursday: 3:30-5 Microsoft Word Class
Thursday: 5-6:30 ESL Level 2

Volunteering during the ESL classes would be very similar to volunteering during any of our classes except the volunteer would be working with Tech Center Staff as well as a Seattle Literacy Tutor. There are also some open lab times available as volunteer opportunities.

Please Neighborhood House has an immediate need for reliable, patient volunteer after-school tutors at Aki Kurose Middle School (3928 South Graham Street). You’ll be working with middle-school students helping them finish their homework as well as improve their academic skills. Orientation and training will be provided.

We’re looking for people who are available from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. once a week for at least three months.

Bike Swap!

Have your kids out grown their old bike(s)? Bikeworks is having their 14th Annual BikeSwap on May 8, from 10am to noon. Trade in your outgrown kid’s bike (no adult bikes) and upgrade for little to no cost. Come at noon if you don’t have a bike to trade.

NRV Cultural Celebration

Plan to join your neighbors for a Cultural Celebration of Black History Month and the Lunar New Year!

Thursday, Feb. 25
5pm - 7:30pm

A soul food and Vietnamese dinner menu is planned. There will be a Black History Month presentation at 6pm and Vietnamese music and dance at 6:30. Games and raffle prizes at 7:30. NRV youth are also planning a bake sale to benefit Haiti earthquake victims.

Interpretation will be provided. Hosted by the NRV Multicultural Committee, Neighborhood House, SHA, International District Housing Alliance and Horn of Africa Service.
