Come out on Saturday, April 23, from 10am to 2pm, with your warm layers, sturdy shoes and sack lunch. Tasks will include clearing and prepping the trail beds, gauging levels, and applying gravel. Can’t do the labor? Come anyway and bring cookies! Got kids? Bring them and let them get muddy hunting for bugs and Spring Eggs!

There is an upcoming EARTH DAY Trail Building Work Party in Cheasty Greenspace at Mt. View on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00am-2:00pm. Cheasty Greenspace is the swath of forest that runs along the eastern flanks of Beacon Hill, right up against the western edge of New Rainier Vista. This trail system and park will be a great asset to our neighborhood and communities! The Mt. View section is across Alaska from NRV, to the south.
We will be meeting at 2809 S. Alaska Place 98108 (one block west of the CCity Light Rail Station) and will provide all the gloves and tools. People should bring their own lunch, water and wear sturdy shoes and warm layers.
People can register on our facebook group page or through Green Seattle Partnership.
Our neighbors across Columbian Way continue to improve the Cheasty Greenspace at Mt. View. Much of the clean up is completed and now it’s time to start prepping for the trails. (If you’re interested in knowing what trails are planned, check out the map.)

Thanks to everyone who attended our Community Meeting on Feb 28th! We got some really good feedback about what type of crops to grow and what kind of classes/workshops to offer. In a matter of months, you’ll see the vegetables you requested growing on the farm!

Now that we have a better plan for the farm, we can start working!
We will have Volunteer Work Parties every Tuesday and Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the farm. Please come for any amount of time during those hours that works for you. We take a lunch break at 12 or 12:30, so if you’re planning on staying the whole time, we suggest you bring a lunch.
As it stays light later and the weather warms up, we’ll be shifting Tuesday work parties to a late afternoon/evening time and adding another weekday morning. Please let us know if there is a different time that will work better for you. We are open to changing our work party schedule so that more people can come.
Please feel free to contact Mariah Pepper, Outreach Coordinator ((206) 387-6644 or mariahp@solid-ground.org) or Scott Behmer, Farm Coordinator ((206)-694-6828 or scottb@solid-ground.org.

We’ll have some gloves if you don’t have them, and we’ll have coffee and donuts.
The folks in Cheasty Greenspace at Mt. View (across Alaska from NRV) have a work party coming up this weekend. Since the February Neighborhood CleanUp is happening next week, here’s your chance to get in twice the volunteering this month!
The workparty is Saturday, Feb. 5 from 10am to 12noon. They will be working to remove the last of the ivy from the forest floor with the idea that trail building can happen this spring. Meet at 2809 S Alaska Place with sturdy shoes and water - they’ll provide tools and gloves.
The folks who are improving the Mt. View portion of Cheasty Greenspace (just south of us on the other side of Alaska) have a couple of volunteer options coming up.
MLK Day of Service: Monday, January 17 from 10am-2pm. Meet at 2809 S. Alaska Place, 98108. Tools, gloves and light refreshments provided. We will be removing ivy and blackberry from Cheasty/Mt. View; please wear sturdy shoes and warm clothes. Please invite your friends and neighbors out for this great day of service honoring the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr!
In advance of the MLK Day of Service, they need people who can do some local canvassing to spread the word on the event. Flyers will be on the front porch on 2809 S Alaska Place with a sign-in sheet. Please indicate where you will be handing out the promotional materials. It would be great to get the word out to Rainier Vista folks, the Boys and Girls Club, neighbors and of course area businesses.
