The Rainier Vista Boys and Girls Club is having a Parent Outreach Event! Come learn about this Positive Place for Kids:

Have you walked in the woods yet??? There’s a wonderful loop trail now in the Cheasty Greenspace at Mt. View, just across S Alaska at the south side of NRV. And more trails are coming!

If you haven’t been over there yet, Forest Stewards Mary DeJong and Andrea Ostrovsky will be leading a special walking tour on Saturday, April 21. Meet in NRV’s Central Park at 11am for a 30 minute walk in the woods.

There is also a work party on April 21, starting at 10am. Dress in layers, bring your own water and lunch, and come out for a few hours of work with neighbors on the continuing efforts to restore the woods, remove invasive species, remove trash, and build trails.

There will be two workparties in the Cheasty Greenspace at Mt. View this month! The first is this Saturday, April 7 from 10am til noon. The second will be an Earth Day event with Seattle Pacific University on Saturday, April 21, from 10am til 2pm.

Current efforts are focused on the new trailhead at Angeline and 27th, and April’s work parties will be about continuing to remove ivy and blackberries and then adding burlap and mulch in preparation for planting in the fall.

Tools and gloves are provided. Bring your own water and dress in layers. Kids welcome!

The Technology Center at the Neighborhood House offers opportunities to access the internet, attend classes on computer skills, get help applying for jobs online, or help finding social services online. Staff are available to answer any questions and teach classes. Come visit soon to get connected!

The pre-school at the NRV Neighborhood House has a few tuition-based openings. These are spaces that are for families that do not qualify for the free Head Start program; tuition is $450 per month. School is from 8:30am to 12:30pm and include breakfast and lunch.

Residents of NRV will receive priority for enrollment.

The 2011 Young Playwrights Festival features professional actors performing the best student plays culled from spring classes at Cleveland High School and South Shore School. The plays tackle some of the toughest topics imaginable, in ways that are brutal, funny, moving and smart. A question and answer session with the featured student playwrights follows the performance.

This event is a program of Rainier Valley Youth Theatre, part of SEED.

The Earth Day work party last month successfully laid 85 feet of new trail. Come out on Saturday to widen and level the trail bed in preparation for another delivery of trail surface.
