The big new apartment building they’ve been working on across MLK from NRV is complete! It’s called Tamarack Place, it’s got 83 units of low-income housing, and it’s got street-level retail/office space.
There will be a grand opening event on January 20, from 11am - 1pm, with a special program at noon. Special guests will include HUD Regional Director Mary McBride and Deputy Mayor Darryl Smith. Refreshments will be served.
The NRV January Community Kitchen has been postponed. A new date will be announced when there is one to announce.
It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost time again for the monthly cleanup. This coming Saturday, Dec. 4th, we’ll meet in Central Park or in front of Neighborhood House if it’s raining. As usual, the time is 10:00 until about noon. Doughnuts, coffee, camaraderie and the pleasure of keeping our neighborhood cleaned up will all be available. Hope to see you there!
Come join us for the Community Kitchen on Friday, December 10th from 12noon – 2pm at Rainier Vista Center. There is no charge and this is a fun way to meet your neighbors and get a chance to eat delicious food from around the world. Please call Kate Farmer at 206-461-4568 ext. 211 for more info.

Every year, SEEDArts highlights different cultures from the diverse community of Southeast Seattle and beyond in its family focused Arts Gumbo Series. Each culture is celebrated at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center with performances, a question and answer session, participatory workshops and food samples from each culture.
On Saturday, Nov. 13 at 6pm, Arts Gumbo partners with the regionally acclaimed Northwest Tap Connection to present Rhythms of the Sole, a cultural journey through African American music guided by the sounds of rhythm tap dance. A Q&A including audience participation will follow. After the performance, a variety of traditional African American desserts will be offered.
