In case you missed it at the Rainier Valley Post:

The community is invited to join FirstThursday Seattle on Thur., April 7, at 7 pm, for a town hall meeting with King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg at the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club (4520 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, S.).

The organizer indicates that Mr. Satterberg will answer questions “on all relevant topics including the “wood carver”, John T. Williams decision. And while he will not go into details for legal reasons, he will answer questions about the Seattle School scandal and other questions that you may have regarding the county’s legal system.”

For more information and to RSVP, please see the details at the Rainier Valley Post.

Aging and Disability Services (ADS) needs community input! As the Area Agency on Aging for Seattle-King County, ADS prepares a new Area Plan on Aging for King County every four years, which guides their decision and funding priorities. Work on the 2012-2015 Area Plan is now underway, but ADS needs to hear Seattle and King County residents. Residents of all ages are invited to complete an online questionnaire. People age 60+, adults with disabilities, and family caregivers are especially encouraged to respond.

The questionnaire is posted at www.agingkingcounty.org. You can also get there via an article in Seniors Digest about the planning process. Print copies are available on request.

Responses from this questionnaire will inform development of strategies to promote quality of life, independence and choice for older people and adults with disabilities, which will be carried out over the next four years. Everybody is aging, so everybody should care. For more information about the Area Plan on Aging or the questionnaire, contact ADS planner Karen Winston (206-684-0706).

The Seattle Police Department invites you to attend a special community training entitled Perspectives on Profiling. This is a shortened version of training that was mandatory for all Seattle Police Department employees in 2010. The Perspectives on Profiling community training will be held on Saturday, April 16th, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Filipino Community Center of Seattle located at 5740 Martin Luther King Jr. Way So.

Please RSVP by Friday, April 1st by contacting Maggie Olsen at margaret.olsen@seattle.gov or 206-684-8672.

Thanks to everyone who attended our Community Meeting on Feb 28th! We got some really good feedback about what type of crops to grow and what kind of classes/workshops to offer. In a matter of months, you’ll see the vegetables you requested growing on the farm!

To read more about the meeting and see a few pictures, check out Lettuce Link’s blog post.

Now that we have a better plan for the farm, we can start working!

We will have Volunteer Work Parties every Tuesday and Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the farm. Please come for any amount of time during those hours that works for you. We take a lunch break at 12 or 12:30, so if you’re planning on staying the whole time, we suggest you bring a lunch.

As it stays light later and the weather warms up, we’ll be shifting Tuesday work parties to a late afternoon/evening time and adding another weekday morning. Please let us know if there is a different time that will work better for you. We are open to changing our work party schedule so that more people can come.

Please feel free to contact Mariah Pepper, Outreach Coordinator ((206) 387-6644 or mariahp@solid-ground.org) or Scott Behmer, Farm Coordinator ((206)-694-6828 or scottb@solid-ground.org.

Looking to meet your neighbors? Learn new cooking techniques and/or recipes?

Rainier Community Kitchen is an opportunity for neighbors to gather to cook good food together and go home with meals for their families. Our combined shopping dollars go to healthy, vegetarian ingredients and we enjoy learning new recipes as we cook together. Currently, we meet on the second Thursday of the month, 6:30-8:30p, in the kitchen of the Rainier Community Center.

The fee is $25 and you’ll enjoy two hours of camaraderie with your neighbors, a sense of accomplishment, and will create 4-6 servings of 4 menu items to take home. Register at http://class.seattle.gov/parks/Activities/ActivitiesCourseDetails.asp?aid=23&cid=66281 by Weds, March 9 to join us on March 10.
