Our 2nd Community Kitchen event will be held on Wednesday, October 28th at 6:30pm – 8:30pm here at NRV.  The menu for the evening will be (copies of the recipes will be available that evening):

  • Pie Plate Winner Quiche (homemade pie crust!)
  • Autumn Vegetable Soup
  • Victorian Green Tomato Cake

The cost of the kitchen is $25, although there is a slight chance that with an accurate participant count and some savvy shopping, the fee might be less, but that won’t be known til the night of.  Please bring a box or bag to carry home your food (and bring a jar to put your soup in).

This is a fun event that offers a wonderful opportunity  to meet your neighbors and learn new recipes and cooking skills.  Contact Kate Farmer at katef@NHWA.ORG with questions or to let her know you’re coming!

The next meeting of the HOA Board will be Tuesday, October 27th at 7pm in the McBride Court Community Room.

We’ve had very low homeowner turn out at recent meetings.  This particular meeting is important since the Reserve Study Committee will be presenting it’s preliminary report to the Board.  Come learn how much your HOA dues are likely to increase.

Protect your identity.  The Better Business Bureau is offering Secure Your ID Day: A free document shredding event!  There will also be handouts with identity-theft prevention tips. The  goal is to raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding personal information and keeping sensitive documents out of the wrong hands.

It’s a draft plan, but the current proposed “attendance area” maps have been released. Access them here:

School Assignment Maps

Of particular interest: New Rainier Vista have been assigned to three schools. Those in Phase 1 will be assigned to Kimball. In Phase 2 (across MLK), those north of Oregon (across MLK from Columbian) will be assigned to John Muir and those south of Oregon will go to Hawthorne. Perhaps these divisions don’t mean much to us now since Phase 2 isn’t built yet, but they could pose challenges in the future.

These attendance areas are not yet final. Individuals with questions or concerns should contact Seattle Schools. Ways to do so are listed here.

Just a friendly reminder the next Traffic & Safety Committee Meeting will be held Monday, October 05, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the Neighborhood House (Paul Allen Room), 4410 29th Avenue South.  Captain Emerick from South Precinct will be joining us at the meeting.  In addition, we will be discussing potential community education on new Metro Bus scheduling, ORCA and RPZ as well as update from the South Precinct.
