Dear Homeowners:
The Rainier Vista Home Owners Association will be changing and this change will directly affect you. A change in the composition of the Board is on the horizon. It is critical that homeowners attend the Association Meeting on Tuesday evening to learn of the change and what tasks need to be completed to ensure a smooth transition. We will devote the entire second half of the Board Meeting to discussing the creation of a ‘Transition Committee’ of homeowners as well as the timeline for the transition. As your Board President, I am encouraging you to attend this meeting.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you.
Willard Brown
Board President
Webmaster’s Note: The Board Meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 28. See the calendar for details.

The Neighborhood House has a new volunteer position open and is looking to fill it, preferably with someone local. The Youth Tutor and Technology Volunteer will assist youth (primarily ages 12 – 19, but younger children too) with their computer-based homework and learning activities. Working with the Computer Lab Coordinator and Computer Coaches, volunteers will encourage and assist youth to use technology productively to complete school assignments, increase their technology skills, and complete a variety of technology-based projects and experiences.
Neighborhood House is looking for someone who can provide volunteer support a minimum of one afternoon a week (Monday through Thursday; 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm). You should be comfortable working with youth, able to communicate effectively, be familiar with various computer programs and tasks (Word, Powerpoint, Internet research, graphics), and be able to assist youth with homework and basic academic skills. Responsibilities will include assisting youth in the computer lab to complete homework and learning activities, helping prepare and facilitate technology-based activities for youth, monitoring computer lab activities to ensure safe and proper use, helping prepare and maintain the lab equipment and being a positive roll model.
Interested? Contact Kate Farmer, NRV Site Manager for Neighborhood House at (206) 461-4568 ext. 211 or katef@NHWA.ORG
Block 4, at the north end of the community, is now actively under construction. The builder is Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit committed to “ending substandard housing” that relies on volunteers for all the labor. To get involved with Habitat generally, check out their Volunteer Information page. To volunteer on the Block 4 site specifically, contact Martha (ext 112) or Margie (ext 111) at 206-292-5240. The site supervisor said they were scheduling about a month in advance. Individual volunteers are welcome (you don’t have to be part of a group and no one needs to organize a big NRV event - although if someone wanted to I bet that would be welcome as well).
